Government is stepping up efforts to resolve the long-standing security crisis in Bawku, the Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central has said.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show with Kafui Dey, he revealed that high-level discussions are ongoing at the national security level, with President Mahama personally involved in finding a solution. He stressed that while the conflict has persisted for decades, the President is committed to tackling it but requires time.

He also disclosed that the Interior and Defence Ministers are set to visit Bawku to assess the security situation, engage with security agencies, and interact with the youth in a bid to foster cooperation.

“I’ve always used every platform I’ve been given to appeal to the young people, the elders, and everybody that they shouldn’t forget this problem has been there for more than half a century, and various solutions have been implemented, and yet we’re still with the problem.”

“Half of my day’s work is on Bawku, and President Mahama gives me all the time and attention to discuss the issues with him. Everyone else who is a stakeholder is cooperating well,” the MP stated.

On the curfew, he announced an easing of restrictions, now set from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am. He added that further adjustments would be considered, especially ahead of Ramadan, to accommodate Muslim worshippers.

The Asantehene is also expected to play a key role in mediation efforts. The Majority Leader urged patience, emphasising that a lasting solution requires careful consultation and planning.

The MP further reiterated his commitment to solving the issue “in a lasting manner,” highlighting a deliberate, measured approach focused on a permanent solution.
