Nine persons have successfully filed their nomination forms to contest the Council of State representative for the Upper East Region (UER). They include Elias Ayinbila Apasiya, a librarian and lecturer at the Bolgatanga Technical University; Thomas More, a health professional; Arabogo Ben Azumah, a social worker; Thomas More Dtundini Adiali, a financial consultant and Peter Baba Azuze-ele, a lecturer in computing.
The others are Justice Aduko, an environmental and climate change consultant; Balinia Adda Dennis, a farmer; Bismark Adongo, a development worker; and Desmond Ayambire Abire, a project officer.
They submitted their nominations to the regional office of the Electoral Commission before the close of day on 31st January, 2025. The candidates have since been moving from one district to the other, contacting the relevant persons to sell their messages to be elected to represent the region.
Two Assembly Members from each of the 15 Districts and Municipal Assemblies in the region will make up the Electoral College to vote and decide who represents the region on the Council.
The Electoral Commission would conduct the exercise on 11th February, 2025 at a venue yet to be determined.
