The General Secretary of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana, Mr. Richard Kofi Jordan has reiterated that the Korle Bu Mortuary has been shut down for six weeks.

Speaking with Kafui Dey on the GTV breakfast show on February 5, 2025, Mr. Jordan disclosed that bodies from home will no longer be accepted at the mortuary.

This decision affects individuals who have had bodies deposited at the mortuary for over three weeks, requiring them to make alternative arrangements for burial or transfer to another facility.

Mr. Jordan indicated that the facility is undergoing maintenance and a refurbishment of the 600-capacity cold room.

The directive, which was announced on Monday, February 3, was implemented to facilitate a much-needed refurbishment of the hospital’s mortuary facilities.

The renovation, expected to span six weeks, is part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of its services and address infrastructural challenges that have plagued the facility over the years.

Mr. Richard Kofi Jordan has recommended that Korle Bu Mortuary should have its autonomous power supply, rather than relying on the hospital’s main power source, to ensure uninterrupted operations and maintain the integrity of the facility.
