Minister-Designate for Government Communication and Acting Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led government is unperturbed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) minority’s political maneuvers regarding the appointment of Dr. Johnson Asiama as Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu’s comment follows the NPP minority’s call urging the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to exercise strict scrutiny in its engagements with Dr Asiama to prevent potential global reputational risks to Ghana.
This stems from the government’s recent withdrawal of all charges against Dr Asiama, who was previously facing trial in connection with the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank.

The Minority questioned his credibility to serve as a lead negotiator with the IMF under these circumstances.
However, reacting to the minority’s threat that it is going to notify the IMF about Dr. Asiama’s appointment in an interview with an Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday, 6, February 2025, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu took pains to address concerns raised by the opposition NPP members of Parliament stating that “the Government is not concerned. All the stakeholders within the financial sector, in the economy are people who are well-grounded and know what exactly the issues are regarding the economy and the nation’s finances.”
According to him, political actors often resort to grandstanding and theatrics to further their political interests.
He has, therefore, dismissed the idea that serious investors or players in the Ghanaian economy would be swayed by the minority’s criticisms.
“I am not sure that any serious investor out there or any player in the Ghanaian economy will make decisions based on some issues that the minority are raising, which are not grounded and motivated by politicking,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further explained.
