Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has called for calm and urged the grassroots and youth of Ashaiman to remain confident in President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to inclusivity. Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, Shamima Muslim assured the people of Ashaiman, describing the constituency as the “heartbeat of the NDC,” that President Mahama will not turn his back on them.
Muslim addressed concerns surrounding the appointment of only 60 ministers, emphasizing that the process took into account important factors such as gender, regional balance, religious representation, and inclusion of vulnerable groups. While acknowledging that some communities and constituencies might not yet have benefitted, she stressed that with the new government in office for 30 days now the overall effort to ensure inclusivity, particularly the 27% of women appointed so far, should be the focus.
“The narrative that some supporters of the NDC are dissatisfied with certain appointments should not overshadow the greater goal of inclusivity,” Muslim stated. She emphasized the need to highlight President Mahama’s efforts to bring diverse representation to key positions.
She also condemned the recent violent protests in response to appointment-related grievances, making it clear that such actions are unacceptable. Muslim stressed that the NDC party does not condone rioting or violence and reaffirmed that in instances where the law is violated, it must take its course.
In her remarks, Shamima Muslim reassured Ghanaians that President Mahama’s appointments would continue to reflect the interests of the masses. She mentioned that there are still approximately 6,000 appointments to be made, with individuals from various backgrounds and communities set to benefit from these opportunities.
Muslim called for patience and urged citizens to remain hopeful, as the president remains committed to serving the people of Ghana.
