The prosecution team has withdrawn charges against four individuals linked to the stabbing death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley. The case was brought before the Fiapre Circuit Court following the tragic incident that occurred on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kromansah Park during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

As the legal situation develops, the prosecution team at the Bono Regional Police Headquarters is preparing to take the case back to the Sunyani District Court. The Ghana Police Service has reported a total of seven arrests related to this incident, with two of those arrested, including Nsoatreman FC owner and former MP Ignatius Baffour Awauh, granted bail and set to appear in court again on February 17, 2025. The football community remains on edge as updates unfold in this high-profile murder case.

Other accused, like Isaac Fosu, Yeboah Augustine, Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwa (known as Akosua Black Chinese), and Yaa Asantewaa, had faced serious charges, including abetment of crime to wit murder, under Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act. In addition to these four, two other suspects, Briamah (Rasta) and Yaw Koshy, remain at large, with Briamah also facing an additional murder charge.

Initially, the suspects were denied bail on February 7, 2025, by Her Honour Akua Addae Adoma, who indicated that the court lacked jurisdiction over the felony case. The accused were directed to remain in police custody and scheduled to reappear in court on February 10, 2025. However, the unexpected decision by the prosecution to withdraw the charges has altered the course of the legal proceedings.

Inspector Alexander Oppong, the prosecutor, formally requested the withdrawal of the charges, leading to the case being struck out by the presiding judge. This decision has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding the case and the evidence initially presented against the accused individuals.
