The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition is set to host Africa Oil Week (AOW) 2025, the continent’s largest energy event focused on upstream development and finance.

Taking place from 15th to 18th September 2025 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, the high-level gathering will bring together Ministers, National Oil Companies (NOCs), regulators, and private sector leaders to unlock investment, drive strategic energy partnerships, and shape the future of Africa’s upstream industry.

Minister for Energy and Green Transition of Ghana Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring Africa maximizes its natural resources for socio-economic transformation and energy security.

He emphasized the urgent need for African unity and investment mobilization to navigate the continent’s evolving energy landscape.

“Africa must take charge of its energy future. We are at a pivotal moment where the global energy landscape is shifting rapidly, and we must work together to secure investment, accelerate production, and leverage technology to decarbonize our upstream sector. Ghana is proud to host AOW 2025, where we will lead discussions on utilizing our vast natural resources, strengthening upstream infrastructure, and showcasing new licensing opportunities. This event will be a turning point for Africa’s oil and gas sector, and we look forward to welcoming the global community to Accra this September.”

AOW 2025 will provide a world-class platform for African governments to promote upstream opportunities and for the private sector to explore investment prospects across the regional energy sector. CEO of AOW, Paul Sinclair, expressed enthusiasm for the momentum building around the event, noting a record level of government and private sector participation.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming support from the Ghanaian government in hosting Ministers, NOCs, and global investors at AOW 2025. Africa is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for global energy investment, and 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for the continent’s upstream sector. Ghana is poised to take centre stage in this global conversation at AOW in Accra from 15th – 18th September.”

Ghana will also present a dedicated National Showcase, where the new government will outline its vision for positioning the country as one of the most competitive upstream destinations through progressive regulations, incentives, and policies.

While AOW remains a truly Pan-African event, it will also serve as the stage for major announcements regarding Ghana’s upstream sector under the new government.

Beyond policy and regulation, AOW 2025 will feature exclusive presentations on the geology of the Keta and Voltarian basins, unveiling new exploration opportunities for the international operator community.

“We expect to see exciting developments from international oil and gas companies in these basins, and it is a privilege to have exclusive presentations on their potential at AOW 2025,” added Paul Sinclair.

Furthermore, AOW 2025 will serve as a platform for the Ghanaian government to unveil its ambitious new production targets, aiming to increase daily output from the current 120,000-130,000 barrels per day to a significantly higher benchmark, further strengthening Ghana’s position as a premier destination for international oil and gas operators.

In a previous statement, CEO of GNPC, Edward Bawa, highlighted the strategic importance of Ghana hosting the 7th APPO NOC CEO Meeting at AOW 2025, reinforcing Ghana’s leadership in Africa’s energy transition.

“GNPC will leave no stone unturned to ensure a warm welcome to all NOC CEOs attending the 7th APPO NOC CEO Meeting. AOW 2025 will be the premier platform where deals are struck between the global private sector, Pan-African regulators, and National Oil Companies. Hosting regional leadership in Ghana at AOW will be an honour, and we fully expect strong participation from major NOCs and policymakers who will present licensing rounds and open acreage opportunities.”

With a robust agenda featuring high-level ministerial summits, industry-leading discussions, and exclusive investment showcases, AOW 2025 is shaping up to be an event for Africa, run by Africa.
