The President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) and Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has officially inaugurated the newly renovated National Weightlifting Training Center at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The facility, which had been out of use for nearly a year, has undergone extensive upgrades to improve training conditions for athletes.
During the commissioning event, Shaib praised the dedication of Federation members and highlighted the significance of the renovation.
“As you all know, this gym has been non-operational for almost a year due to necessary renovations aimed at upgrading the facilities and equipping the space for optimal use,” he stated.
“Today, we are not just celebrating the reopening of a training center, but embracing a vision—one that represents growth, progress, and success for weightlifting in Ghana.”
Beyond serving Ghana’s national weightlifters, he emphasized that the center will also welcome international athletes and contribute to the promotion of weightlifting as a mainstream sport in the country.
“The primary goal of this facility is to offer improved training conditions for Ghanaian weightlifters while also accommodating athletes from other countries who may wish to train here. Additionally, we aim to develop young talent in the sport, enhance Ghana’s presence in international weightlifting competitions, and ultimately promote weightlifting as both a sport and a lifestyle nationwide,” he concluded.
