In a heated exchange on Citi TV’s “Point of View” program on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Lawyer and Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, cautioned the lawyer of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP)  to respect due process in its quest to fight corruption.

“I think I need to advert your mind to the fact that when we are practicing law, we are not enemies, we are protecting our clients, We are not enemies, we are just doing our jobs” Mr Awuah said, addressing OSP’s Sammy Darko.

Mr. Awuah’s comments came in response to the OSP’s declaration of Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta as wanted. The MP argued that the OSP’s approach was heavy-handed, saying, “You wrote to them, saying that for a domestic incident, he cannot come, please allow us a week to bring him. The next letter, a threatening letter, the person is treated almost like the OSP is a court that has passed a judgment.”

Mr. Awuah emphasized the importance of respecting due process, stating, “It is important we fight corruption… But it is equally important that we respect due process of law.”

The OSP’s declaration of Ken Ofori-Atta as wanted has sparked controversy, with some arguing that the OSP’s approach is overly aggressive.
