Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has accused the new Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, of deliberately dropping criminal cases against members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Dame believes Dr. Ayine is following a plan to clear NDC officials of wrongdoing. He made these allegations while speaking to journalists in Accra on Friday, February 14.

According to Mr. Dame, Dr. Ayine was sworn in on January 22, 2025, and just two days later, he started withdrawing cases against NDC officials. He said the Attorney General dropped an appeal in the case against Ato Forson and two others on January 24, 2025. On January 28, 2025, he withdrew charges against Dr. Stephen Opuni and two others, leading to their acquittal and discharge.

Mr. Dame further stated that on January 29, 2025, Dr. Ayine withdrew a case against Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and another person, resulting in their release. The next day, January 30, 2025, he also dropped two different cases against Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, leading to his acquittal and discharge in one and dismissal in the other.

He described these actions as part of a pattern to clear NDC officials of all criminal charges. “There were more withdrawals and nolle prosequi in the following days. The only reason it did not happen daily was because of weekends,” he said.

Mr. Dame called on Ghanaians to pay attention to what he described as a deliberate attempt by the NDC government to erase all criminal cases against its top officials. He said this was being done not through the courts but through the Attorney General’s office.

“The only conclusion is that this is a planned move by the NDC to remove all cases against its key members from the John Mahama administration,” he added.
