Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has issued a heartfelt appeal for justice following the tragic death of a fan during a Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman.
The incident, marked by severe violence, resulted in the untimely passing of Nana Pooley, a dedicated supporter of the game. In a somber meeting with Kotoko’s management, Okraku expressed his deep concern over the disturbing events and urged those involved to come forward. He emphasized, “If you love football, this is the time to be honest,” appealing to witnesses to help expose those responsible for Nana Pooley’s tragic death.
Kurt Okraku also revealed his reasons for remaining silent on the incident for an extended period. He explained that his absence from public comments was due to medical reasons, as he sought treatment outside the country, rather than any ongoing campaign efforts for a CAF Executive Committee slot. This disclosure highlights his commitment to addressing the matter honestly and prioritizing the well-being of the football community.
“I was out of the country not to campaign for a slot on CAF Executive Committee but to work for the FA and to attend to my medical needs”; Kurt Okraku.
As part of the GFA’s response, witnesses are being encouraged to cooperate with investigations to ensure justice is served. The Association has underscored the importance of this case not only for Nana Pooley’s family but for the broader football family as well. The GFA is committed to taking all necessary steps to prevent such tragedies in the future and to ensure fan safety at all matches.
Kurt Okraku’s call for honesty and justice serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and order in the beautiful game as the football community mourns the loss of Nana Pooley.
