The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has denied claims that he moves around with a convoy of 50 military officers.
Dismissing the allegation as false, he stated, “I have never had 50 military officers following me.”
Afenyo-Markin made this remark on The KeyPoints on TV3 on February 22, 2025, in response to an accusation by the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, who alleged, “A Majority Leader used to drive around with a convoy of 50 military personnel.”
Although Dafeamekpor did not mention any names, another panelist, Mr. Martin Kpebu, specifically identified Afenyo-Markin as the leader in question. The discussion centered on the privileges enjoyed by state officials.
Calling into the program, Afenyo-Markin clarified that, as the Minority Leader, he is entitled to the services of police outriders.
“I am not the first Minority Leader to have access to police outriders. Haruna Iddrisu had it, Benjamin Kumbuor had it. It is because of the nature of the job. You are required to be here and there. The use of outriders facilitates the process,” he emphasized.
