The Minority in Parliament has rejected the nomination of Justice Srem-Sai as Deputy Attorney General and Justice Minister-designate after a disagreement with the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor.
The dispute happened during the vetting process when Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, asked Srem-Sai to demonstrate a traditional dance.

However, the Chairman strongly opposed the request, which angered Afenyo-Markin.
He described the Chairman’s decision as “whimsical” and said he was “rudely interrupted,” calling it unfair treatment toward the Minority.
The vetting was suspended for ten minutes. When the process resumed, the Minority announced their rejection of Srem-Sai’s nomination.
Afenyo-Markin further stated that since the vetting began on Monday, February 24, 2025, they have also rejected the nominations of three other deputy minister-designates: Alhassan Suhuyini (Roads and Highways), Sulemana Yussif (Lands and Natural Resources), and Yussif Issaka Jajah (Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts).
He accused the Majority side of repeatedly interrupting his questioning of Srem-Sai. He claimed that even the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, and the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, interfered.
“The Minority caucus rejects the nomination of the Deputy Attorney General. Any decision on this will be solely yours as the Majority caucus. As part of our protest, we are also rejecting all other nominees today,” Afenyo-Markin said.
