The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has stirred debate by stating that the responsibility for making the Black Stars’ budget public lies with the Sports Ministry, not the FA.

His remarks contrast with President John Dramani Mahama’s recent directive during the State of the Nation Address, in which he urged the Sports Ministry to ensure transparency in the national teams’ budgets.

President Mahama stressed the importance of accountability, arguing that the budget for the Black Stars, who he described as a “shadow of their former selves,” should be made public.

He emphasised that the funds come from taxpayers and that the GFA and other associations must operate transparently.

However, speaking on Sporty FM in Accra, Henry Asante Twum dismissed the President’s directive, insisting that budget transparency was not within the GFA’s remit.

“Making the Black Stars’ budget public is not the responsibility of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). It is the responsibility of the Sports Ministry,” he said on Friday, February 28.
