President John Dramani Mahama has assured the clergy and people of the Ashanti Region that his administration will prioritize the completion of key infrastructure projects that have stalled under the previous government.

Addressing religious leaders during a fellowship in Kumasi, he reaffirmed his commitment to development, vowing to complete major projects, including the Sewua Hospital, Afari Military Hospital, Suame Interchange, and Kejetia Market Phase Two.

“My administration is determined to complete several projects that were unfortunately abandoned or delayed by the previous government,” Mahama stated. “I have assured Otumfuo that the Sewua Hospital will be completed this year to help decongest the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.”

He stressed the urgent need for improved healthcare infrastructure, noting that the stalled Afari Military Hospital would also receive immediate attention;
“I have engaged the managers of Euroget de Invest, the contractors for the Afari Military Hospital, and they have assured me that work will resume soon to ensure its swift completion,” he assured.

On road infrastructure, President Mahama criticized the lack of dedicated funding for the Suame Interchange and other road network projects. “These projects were initiated without secured financial backing, but we are actively working to secure funds to expedite their completion and ease the daily congestion Kumasi residents face,” he noted.

Addressing the stalled Kejetia Market Phase Two, he attributed the delay to the previous administration’s debt exchange programme.
“The project came to a standstill because of the debt restructuring. Now that negotiations with the creditor committee are complete, we can begin direct discussions with lenders to resume work,” he explained.

Outlining his broader vision for the region, President John Mahama introduced the ‘Big Push’ initiative, which includes the construction of the Kumasi Western Bypass.
“This project will significantly reduce traffic congestion by diverting heavy-duty trucks from the city centre, offering an alternative route through Ejisu to Mampong and Techiman,” he said.

President John Mahama reiterated his commitment to closing developmental gaps in the Ashanti Region while fostering collaboration among religious leaders in national development. “There is much work ahead, and I ask for your prayers as we strive to reset our dear nation, Ghana.”
