The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has assured the people of Abutia and its surrounding communities that the government is committed to fixing the Abutia-Juapong road network.

His assurance came in response to an appeal by the Chief of Abutia Kpota, Togbe Tsali, who called for urgent action on the road during the inauguration of a newly constructed GHS 2.3 million health facility in the community.

Mr. Gunu stated that the road project was originally awarded in 2016 but was abandoned by the previous administration. He emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Roads Kwame Governs Agbodza are now prioritizing its completion.

“I have also taken note of Togbe’s request regarding the road and the school project. These are things we will work on to ensure that the road from Abutia to Juapong is constructed. This project was awarded before we left office in 2016, but unfortunately, the last government abandoned it. However, His Excellency the President and the Minister of Roads are committed to getting it done as soon as possible,” the minister stated.

The poor state of the road network has been a long-standing concern for residents, affecting transportation, economic activities, and access to essential services. Togbe Tsali reiterated that fixing the road would significantly improve the livelihoods of the people, particularly farmers and traders who depend on it for their daily activities.

It remains to be seen how soon the government will fulfill its promise, but the people of Abutia are hopeful that this renewed commitment will finally bring the long-awaited road project to completion.
