Dutch-born Ghanaian Jeremie Frimpong is increasingly likely to depart Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window, according to reports from Sky Sports Germany.

The Netherlands international has been a key player for Leverkusen, contributing 3 goals and 5 assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances. However, Frimpong’s aspirations lie elsewhere, with a move to Spain’s top flight his ultimate goal.

Frimpong’s desire to join either Real Madrid or FC Barcelona is well-documented, and it’s understood that he turned down potential transfers last summer in the hopes of securing a move to one of these Spanish giants. The 24-year-old’s decision to stay at Leverkusen was also influenced by Xabi Alonso’s appointment as manager, with Frimpong reportedly eager to work under the Spanish tactician.

While Frimpong has attracted interest from several top-flight English clubs, he is said to be less enthusiastic about the prospect of playing in the Premier League. The Dutch defender believes the English top flight is too physical and doesn’t suit his style of play. Instead, Frimpong is holding out for a move to Spain, where he hopes to showcase his skills in a more technical and possession-based league.

Frimpong’s potential departure will undoubtedly be a blow to Bayer Leverkusen, who have come to rely on his attacking prowess and defensive solidity on the right flank. As the summer transfer window approaches, Leverkusen fans will be anxious to see whether Frimpong’s dreams of playing for Real Madrid or FC Barcelona will finally come to fruition.

With Frimpong’s future increasingly uncertain, Bayer Leverkusen will need to begin making contingency plans to replace their star right-back. Whether they can persuade Frimpong to stay remains to be seen, but for now, it appears that the Dutch defender’s heart is set on a move to Spain’s top flight.
