The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG), in collaboration with Futurestars Charity and Salford Red Devils, is gearing up to host the maiden Rising Star Rugby League Tournament—Accra Edition (U-15) on March 20, 2025.

The event, scheduled to take place at Englebert School from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, aims to uncover and nurture young rugby talent while fostering sportsmanship and teamwork among schoolchildren. This marks a significant milestone in the growth of rugby league in Ghana, as it brings together schools and communities to celebrate the sport.

The tournament will feature six teams from various schools, including Future Leader School (Panthers), Twedaase (Bulls), Englebert School (Skolars), Tema Cluster and Queensland International (Tigers). The teams will compete for the ultimate title, with attendees served with a range of engaging activities, including the Hit-The-Bottle Challenge, E-Rugby League Games, Team Chant Challenge, and a Trophy Tour.

According to Mrs. Juliana Storey, president of the Rugby League Federation Ghana, the tournament serves as an incredible opportunity for young athletes to experience the thrill of rugby league at a competitive level. “By providing a structured and supportive environment, we are helping to develop the next generation of rugby league stars in Ghana,” she stated.

The partnership with Futurestars Charity and Salford Red Devils reinforces the RLFG’s commitment to grassroots development and making rugby league accessible to all. Emmanuel Okyen-Tetteh, Country Leader of Futurestars Charity, emphasised the importance of using sport as a tool for positive change.

“At Futurestars Charity, we believe that sports, especially rugby league, can transform lives by instilling discipline, teamwork, and resilience in young people. Through this partnership, we are empowering young athletes with opportunities to grow, both on and off the field,” he stated.

The tournament is not only a platform for competition but also a celebration of community engagement, youth development, and the growth of rugby league in Ghana.
