The Economic Fighters League has submitted a comprehensive proposal to the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), outlining significant changes to how Ghana manages its land and natural resources. The submission, dated March 12, 2025, focuses on amending Article 257 of the Constitution to vest public lands directly in the people of Ghana, rather than the President.

The proposal emphasizes collective ownership of land, suggesting that all lands in Ghana should be declared the property of the Ghanaian people, with the state administering it on their behalf. The League also recommends strict regulations on leaseholds to prevent land speculation, displacement, and foreign control. It prioritizes land use for agriculture, housing, and community development over elite real estate projects.

Furthermore, the Economic Fighters League advocates for Ghana to fully own and control its natural resources, such as gold, oil, and lithium. The group believes that mining profits should stay in Ghana, benefiting citizens through job creation, infrastructure development, and national projects. It also seeks to empower Ghana in negotiations with foreign corporations to secure better deals for its people.

Environmental protection is another key focus, with the League calling for severe penalties for illegal mining and environmental destruction. Communities are urged to have a real say in whether mining or logging can occur on their land, ensuring that development does not come at the cost of destroying livelihoods.

Additionally, the proposal suggests redistributing land owned by absentee landlords, foreign entities, and corrupt elites to landless farmers, workers, and cooperatives. It recommends establishing community-led land trusts to keep land in the hands of the people for collective use and providing state support for cooperative farms and businesses.

The Economic Fighters League’s vision is part of a broader push towards a people-centered constitution, aiming to dismantle the colonial land system and promote equitable development. The Constitutional Review Committee is currently engaging stakeholders and will hold public sessions from April 7 to May 6, 2025, to gather further input on these proposals.
