The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on Ghana’s envoys to make the well-being of Ghanaians living abroad a top priority.

Addressing the nation’s 71 Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Heads of Missions, and Consul-Generals in a virtual meeting on March 13, 2025, Okudzeto Ablakwa stressed the need for greater responsiveness to the concerns of Ghanaians in the diaspora.

“Ghanaians out there must truly feel that we care for them,” he stressed, urging diplomats to ensure swift and effective support for citizens abroad.

He noted that the government is committed to modernising consular services, streamlining passport acquisition processes, and addressing inefficiencies that hinder access to essential services.

The minister outlined key reforms under President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for a “reset” of Ghana’s foreign service, including the introduction of performance benchmarks to enhance service delivery. He also announced the creation of a dedicated delivery unit to monitor the effectiveness of Ghana’s diplomatic missions.

Hon. Ablakwa reassured the envoys of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of foreign service staff while ensuring that diplomatic missions remain citizen-focused.

“We shall not fail Ghanaians,” he opined, expressing confidence that Mahama’s transformation agenda for the foreign service will be realised.
