The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, has introduced a Private Member’s (PM) Bill aimed at halting public service appointments after elections until the new government is sworn in.

The Bill, currently under review, seeks to prevent disputes over the termination of appointments of public sector workers hired after December 7, 2024, and to address similar issues in the future.

Speaking in an interview with the media, the Madina MP expressed concern that last-minute appointments and recruitments into state security services by an outgoing administration undermine good governance.

He argued that amending the law would help resolve the issue.

“From December 7, 2028, to January 7, 2029, there should be no appointments. Once the law is clear on that, it will eliminate the practice of outgoing governments making last-minute appointments—appointments that the incoming administration may not have budgeted for and may eventually have to cancel.

To address this issue, we have put together a proposal, which we are presenting to Parliament. It is currently undergoing review, and once finalized, it will be made known to the people of Ghana,” he explained.

The Madina MP remains confident that once the Bill is finalized, it will be effectively communicated to the public.
