Ghanaian rapper and songwriter King Paluta, born Thomas Adjei Wireko, has petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board over the exclusion of his hit song Makoma from the 2025 nominations list.

In a letter dated March 18, 2025, and addressed to the TGMA board, King Paluta’s management team expressed deep concern over what they described as an unjustifiable omission of Makoma, a song they claim to be one of the most popular releases within the year under review.

The petition highlighted that Makoma was duly submitted for consideration in multiple categories, including Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year.

However, the team was left disappointed when the official list of nominees was released, with the song missing from all categories.

“This concern has become necessary after the team realised none of the categories we submitted the said material for were considered,” the statement read.

King Paluta’s management further stressed their confidence in the competence of the TGMA board and urged the organisers to provide a convincing explanation for what they termed an “unpopular decision”.

“We believe in the competence of the TGMA board and trust that a convincing reason be issued to our team, music enthusiasts, and the general public,” the petition continued.

The letter also reassured the board that Makoma did not breach any moral or ethical requirements and urged the organizers to reconsider the song for the relevant categories.

King Paluta, known for his lyrical prowess and contribution to Ghana’s hiplife and rap scene, has garnered significant attention in the music industry. Makoma has been widely acclaimed by fans and critics, further fueling discussions on whether its exclusion from the nominations was justified.
