President John Dramani Mahama has tasked the newly appointed Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Samuel Basintale Amadu, with strengthening border security, modernizing immigration processes, and dismantling human smuggling networks.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed security heads, President Mahama emphasized the GIS’s critical role in protecting Ghana’s sovereignty, warning that transnational crime poses a grave threat to national stability. He urged Mr. Amadu to enhance intelligence operations and foster deeper collaboration with law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking, illegal migration, and drug smuggling.
“The security of our borders and the protection of our national interests require vigilance and decisive action. I charge you to intensify intelligence operations, modernize surveillance systems, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to tackle transnational crimes, particularly drug trafficking,” Mahama stressed.
The President further directed the new Comptroller-General to accelerate the digitalization of visa processing, permit issuance, and border monitoring to enhance efficiency and security. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equipping the GIS with the necessary resources to execute its mandate effectively.
“As you assume this high office, I expect you to lead with professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to Ghana’s security. My administration will stand behind you in ensuring that the Immigration Service is well-equipped to fulfill its mandate,” he added.
