Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare, has urged the National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Minister for Sports to prioritize local players in the senior national team. Speaking on the floor of parliament on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, she emphasized the need to provide more opportunities for local talent to shine in the Black Stars.

“We are calling on NSA, GFA and the Minister of Sports to ensure we see a lot of the local players in the Black Stars”; Abena Osei Asare.

Her call to action is likely driven by concerns that local players are being overlooked in favour of foreign-based players. By promoting local players, the Black Stars can benefit from their familiarity with the local football scene and their potential to inspire upcoming players.

The GFA has previously taken steps to promote local players, but more as said needs to be done to ensure that local talent is given a fair chance to succeed. The appeal is a timely reminder of the need for the NSA, GFA and Minister for Sports to work together to promote local football development.
