President John Mahama has dismissed claims of hostility between his government and the legal fraternity
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Ghana Bar Association at the presidency on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, President Mahama addressed concerns about judicial credibility, unresolved criminal cases, and corruption-related prosecutions.
He noted that public perception of the judiciary has been consistently negative, citing multiple surveys that indicate a lack of confidence in the institution.
“I believe that it is not anecdotal. I mean, several surveys asking Ghanaians what their opinion of the judiciary is have not come out positively.”
He underscored the importance of a judiciary that is respected and seen as fair, impartial, and efficient in delivering justice.
On the matter of his administration’s relationship with the legal profession, President Mahama rejected the notion that there was any animosity.
“There is a perception that we have a problem with the judiciary or the legal fraternity, but if you look at the people around me—Marietta and others—you will see that this is not the case. So our doors are open, our hands are open, and if you think that there’s anything that you should bring to our attention, don’t hesitate at all,” he assured.
