Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Japan, following discussions with the Chief of Mission of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ghana Office, Ms. Momoko Suzuki.
During their meeting on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support through JICA, highlighting key infrastructure projects in the Northern and Ashanti Regions. Others include the construction of a bridge linking the Greater Accra Region to the Volta and Eastern Regions.

He also acknowledged JICA’s contributions to agriculture, particularly the rice farming project, and the recent agreement on power infrastructure development in the Northern Region.
Ms. Suzuki outlined JICA’s ongoing efforts in infrastructure, agriculture, trade, and education.
“JICA is committed to supporting Ghana’s growth and development,” Ms. Suzuki stated.
She further emphasized plans to expand support in areas such as disaster management, combating soil erosion, researching treatment for schistosomiasis (bilharzia), and enhancing education outcomes.
On education, Mr Ablakwa commended JICA for its scholarship programs and encouraged them to broaden their focus.

“While we appreciate the support for science and math, we also urge JICA to invest in projects that develop the soft skills of our children,” he emphasized.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. JICA pledged its continued support for Ghana’s infrastructure development and other crucial sectors, solidifying the enduring partnership between Japan and Ghana.
