Authorities in County Donegal have seized herbal cannabis valued at €2.2 million in a major operation conducted on Tuesday in Lifford. The joint effort involved Gardaí, including the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit, and Revenue’s Customs Service.

During the operation, approximately 112kg of herbal cannabis was confiscated. Two men in their 30s were arrested in connection with the seizure and remain in custody as investigations continue.

This significant bust forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and organized crime under Ireland’s enhanced anti-drugs strategy, Operation Tara.

The initiative aims to disrupt and dismantle drug networks at all levels, from international importation to local distribution.

The seizure highlights the growing focus on drug-related crime in Donegal, which has seen several major operations in recent years.

These include a €600,000 cannabis growhouse uncovered in Donegal Town last year and cocaine worth €4 million found washed up on local beaches. Gardaí continue to appeal for public assistance in tackling drug-related activities.
