“My tribute to the late Dr. Simon B. Asore, a former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, whose burial and funeral service I attended today in Accra.” That’s according to Former president John Dramani Mahama.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble” (2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4).

My memories of Rev. Dr. Simon Bamalong Asore are one of a very confident and peace loving man, and who had such calming effect on those he comes into contact with.

I remember him fondly for his calm words and interventions during my earlier days in government as a Deputy Minister and later Minister, when he was the President of the Ghana Pentecostal Council and Member of the Council of State during the tenure of President Jerry John Rawlings.

As Minister for Communications, there were many occasions and situations that brought us together and he was particularly recognised by both government and the church as a man who knew just how to calm tensions.

I recall his particular intervention on the issue of the ban on noise making during festivals.

As a former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Dr. Asore is one of the celebrated former heads of the Church, credited with many of the innovations and changes that have propelled the church this far.

The Church and Ghana has lost yet another man of peace and a change agent. My condolences to the Assemblies of God Church, the Church in general, his wife and children.

The former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Dr. Simon B. Asore, was laid to rest on Saturday at a private burial the Military Cemetery, Burma Camp, Accra, following a state burial service at the Forecourt of the State House.

The state funeral attracted people from all walks of life, including the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Dramami Mahama, as well as Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

May his soul rest in peace.
