Ghana’s Black Satellites failed to qualify for the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland following their one nil lose to Mali on Saturday in their final Group B match of the ongoing Total U20 AFCON in Niger.
The Satellites needed to avoid defeat to qualify to the semi-finals of the tournament and a place in the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland.
After a goalless first half, the Malians found the winner in the 53rd minute when Hadji Drame headed a cross from inside Ghana’s penalty area into the net.
Ghana’s coach Jimmy Cobblah made two changes with Saliw Babawo coming on for Enock Agyei and Ibrahim Sulley replacing Sabit Abdulai but all to no avail.
Ghana thus finished 3rd in the group with 3 points. Senegal finished on 9 points and Mali on 6.
Africa will therefore be represented by Senegal, Mali, Nigeria and South Africa in the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland.
The Black Satellites are expected to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday.
