An Accra circuit court has sentenced two persons to 15 years imprisonment each with hard labour.
The convicts Yaw Antwi Boasiako, a goldsmith and Kweku Akosah, a driver who were charged with conspiracy to commit crime pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against them by the prosecution.
Two other suspects Ivan Kofi Danso and Faisal are at large.
The case was tried for three years and after a full three years trial, the accused were found guilty and sentenced to 15 years each.
The court presided over by Aboagye Tanoh took into consideration the years spent in custody while the case was being tried.
Prosecution informed the court that the accused persons and suspect, Kofi Danso have been friends.
On the 18th of June 2015, suspect Kofi Danso invited the accused persons and suspect, Faisal to his house at Kwabenya and told them that he had seen a Toyota Camry car in town and wanted them to rob it for him and they agreed.
In the evening of the 19th of June 2015, the accused persons and Faisal went to Kofi Danso’s house and he drove them to a drinking spot at Abelempke. After spending some time in Abelemkpe, Kofi Danso drove the accused persons and Faisal to the house of Kweku Akorsah where he alighted and went into his house.
Kofi Danso then handed a locally manufactured pistol to Faisal. They then drove to Dzorwulu towards Fiesta Royal Hotel where Kofi Danso spotted the complainant’s car being driven by himself with his friend on board.
Kofi Danso identified the car to Yaw, Kweku and Faisal. They followed the car to a house where the complainant parked to alight the friend. Kofi Danso then drove to park directly behind the complainant’s car and Faisal pointed the gun at him and his friend out of the car and sped away with the car. The matter was reported to the police for investigation.
On the 5th of October 2015, the police retrieved the complainant’s car which had been registered with another number from Kofi Danso’s house.
Investigation led to the arrest of the accused persons.
They admitted the offences in their respective investigation caution statement and were charged accordingly.
