The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has issued Constitutional Instrument CI 117 to the Chiefs and People of the Western North signalling the creation of the Western North region.
The President also named Sefwi- Wiawso as the Regional capital and asked the Current Western Regional Minister to take oversight responsibility over the new region.
President Akufo-Addo announced this at a colourful ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra.
President Akufo-Addo assured them of massive infrastructural development with an allocation of GH¢20 million seed money.
He was concerned that the region with all the natural resources lacks basic infrastructure in terms of roads, schools and hospitals.
He told the Chiefs gathered to support his government in bringing growth and prosperity to the region.
President of the Western Region House of Chiefs, Ogye Ahohuo Yaw Gyebi urged the Chiefs and people to accept the selected town as the Regional Capital of the newly created Western North.
The struggle for the creation of the Western North started 40 years ago and it was a dream come true for the people gathered.
