Former President John Dramani Mahama has for the first time, admitted that there has division in the leadership of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC).
Explaining reasons why the NDC lost the 2016 general election, Mr. Mahama cited among other reasons disunity in the national executives of the party.
Speaking on an Accra based Radio Gold ahead of tomorrow’s presidential primaries where he is seeking to lead the NDC again, Mr, Mahama said the situation was so bad and beyond reconciliation.
Many analysts had alluded to factions within the then ruling party but its leadership had always denied any such factions.
The former President has also welcome the initiative taken by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in bringing to an end the activities of party militias.
President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, February, 2019, in his State Of The Nation Address , (#SONA)), called on the leadership of both the New Patrotic Party, (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) to meet and discuss ways of disbanding militia groups associated with the two parties.
Mr. Mahama however, thinks the President’s call and approach is too simplistic and will not achieve the desired results.
According to him, the scope must be expanded to include other actors like the National Peace Council and Security Experts instead of leaving it to the two parties.
On the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, the former President said irrespective of the work of the Justice Emile Short Commission, the police must also do their investigations and arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Defending his decision to show videos of what happened to diplomats in the country, Mr. Mahama said what happened there was a black paint and cannot be painted in any other colour.
Mr. Mahama took the opportunity to console the family of late Lee Ocran especially his wife Seety Ocran.
Lee Ocran a former Minister of Education under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and High Commissioner to South Africa, died in Accra on Thursday, February 21, 2019 following a short illnes. That’s according to reports.
He was also a former Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western region.
