The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Aryeetey has called for the engagement of the Zonal and Town Councils to support the Assemblies in their revenue mobilization.
This, according to him, will make it difficult for people to evade taxes especially on properties.
Mr. Aryeetey gave the call at a panel discussion on Citizens Participation and Inclusive Service Delivery in Koforidua.
Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Aryeetey in his keynote address observed that some practitioners and stakeholders at the local level do not have adequate information to understand the workings of the District Assemblies and their sub-structures.
This, according to him is a contributing factor to the low participation in the decision-making process.
He therefore entreated participants to adhere to the tenets of decentralization and make it practicable to effectively develop and address the needs of local communities in the country.
The New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Gyasi who spoke also stressed the importance of the establishment of the zonal council at the local level stressing that it has helped in the governance of the state at the grassroots by ensuring that MMDAs projects are implemented in the interest of the people.
He assured the zonal executives of the readiness of his outfit to resource them adequately for them to operate efficiently in the development of the municipality.
