The General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu has defended an earlier statement he made, that vigilante groups associated with the party will not be disbanded.
Speaking at the Emile Short Commission, Mr. Boadu said even though the groups are not formed by the party, they provide essential services to the party.
According to him, some of these groups were formed at a point when the police were unable to protect the interest of the party.
He cited instances during a registration exercise at Agbogbloshie where members of the NPP were physically attacked while the Police looked on unconcerned as well as voting in Atiwa and Tamale where underage voters came to vote.
Mr. Boadu said the NPP has not recruited any vigilante group into the National Security.
