The Justice Emile Short commission set up by President Akufo-Addo to investigate the violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election is expected to end its public hearings Friday, March 8.

The Chairperson of the 3-member Commission, Mr Justice Emile Short is expected to meet Journalists where he and the other Commissioners will answer questions on the Inquiry.

The Commission had since February 14, 2019, been probing the circumstances that led to the violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election held on January 31, 2019.

Most of the confusion occurred near a polling station at La-Bawaleshie.

The Commission was set up on February 6, 2019, and had up to a month to submit its report, which elapsed on March 7.

The Emile Short commission had to extend its deadline for its public sittings by a day after it was unable to receive testimony from all the persons scheduled for the final day.

Meanwhile, a man arrested during the electoral violence in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election has denied being a member of pro-NDC militia group, the Hawks.

Sedodu Theophilus told the Commission of Inquiry investigating the violence, he only wore a T-shirt with the inscription ‘The Hawks’.

Sedodu Theophilus was one of 16 persons arrested during the violence recorded at La Bawalashie, a community within the constituency.

Director of Operations, National Security Colonel Michael Opoku who testified days ago fingered The Hawks as having played a role in the violence and pointed to Theophilus as one of the leaders of the  vigilante group.
