Vice President Dr. Bawumia has rejected claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC) that recent depreciation of the cedi is due to weak economic fundamentals.
Addressing a Town Hall meeting in Accra, the Vice President noted that the economic fundamentals are stronger than its inherited.
He said the worse performance of the NPP government in the management of the cedi is better than the best performance of the NDC government.
He attributed the recent free fall of the cedi to IMF program which prevented the government from using foreign reserves to support the local currency.
Dr. Bawumia advised critics of the Akufo-Addo led government not to resort to insults if they disagree with data on the country’s economy.
He said:, “The data will speak for itself if you disagree you should bring your own data and your record…don’t disagree by saying the EMT members have big heads. You only result to insults when you are allergic to facts”.
Dr. Bawumia also announced sweeping changed at the port. He said vehicle charges will go down by 30 percent and 50 recent on bench mark.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia described the achievement of the NPP government in the first two years as remarkable.
He said the government has a clear plan in transforming the economy adding the prospect of growth is promising and the future is bright.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the government has performed better in the management of the economy.
The Vice President supported by other members of the Economic management team started his presentation with weak economic indicators inherited by the government.
On the road, the Vice President noted one point five billion dollars has been earmarked. He said the all the 16 regions will benefit .
On Enegry, Dr. Bawumia said the government is on course to make electricity cheaper.
