The Police Officer who allegedly assaulted three Ghanaian Times journalists has been granted bail in the sum of six thousand cedis with a sureity.
The accused officer, Sergeant Ebenezer Akrofi was charged with seven counts.
He was charged for careless and inconsiderate riding, use of motor bike without license, use of motor bike without insurance policy, use of motor bike without road worthy certificate, failing to stop, use of unregistered motor bike, and use of forged number plate.
Sergeant Akrofi pleaded not guilty to all seven counts.
The Magistrate at the LA District court, Juliet Osei-Duodu also ordered that the sureity pay 1500 as security deposit.
Counsel for Sergeant Akrofi, Charles Ofori said he will prove his client’s innocence of all charges.
Sergeant Emmanuel Akrofi is being charged along with two officers.
The three Ghanaian Times reporters were assaulted on Thursday, March 14, by about 10 Policemen and a Military man.
Malik Sullemana, Raissa Sambou Ebu, reporters and Mr Salifu Abdul- Rahama, Senior Assistant Editor of the Ghanaian Times were physically brutalised for engaging a policeman who had jumped traffic and broken the bumper and side mirror and windscreen of the Nissan Saloon car they were travelling on.
Raissa, who is a nursing mother and had recently had a caesarean section, had to be rushed to the Accra Regional Hospital after going unconscious as she was elbowed and punched in the tummy by one of the raging policemen.
Hearing continues on the 24 of this month.
