Supreme Court Justices to be vetted on August 23

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will begin public hearing on Thursday, 23rd August 2018 to vet the four persons nominated by the President for the appointment as justices of the Supreme Court.

A statement issued and signed by the Acting Director, Public Affairs Department of Parliament, Kate Addo said two nominees: Professor Nii Ashie Kotey and Justice Samuel K. Marful-Sau will appear before the committee Thursday and the other two, Justice Agnes Mercy Abla Dordzie and Nana A. O. Amegatcher will be considered on Friday, 24th August 2018 at Parliament House, Accra.

Their appointments were made by President Nana Akufo-Addo, on July 3, 2018, after which the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, announced the nominations in Parliament and accordingly referred the four nominees to the Appointments Committee for vetting.

The four nominations will add up to the current 12 Justices of the Supreme Court.

The current Supreme Court Judges are the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, Justice William Atuguba, Justice Julius Ansah, Justice Sophia Adjeibea Adinyira, Justice Jones Mawulom Dotse and Justice Anin Yeboah.

The rest are Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Justice Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe, Justice Vida Akoto-Bamfo, Justice Alfred Anthony Benin, Justice Yaw Appau and Justice Gabriel Pwamang.
