The Upper West Regional Gender Desk Officer Mrs. Charity Banye says as much as women can aspire to career and academic excellence, they must be mindful that the home which is an integral part of parenting cannot be left unattended.
Mrs. Banye said to do this, women must build inclusive homes by encouraging husbands and children to play their part in the development of the home.
This would ensure that the home has enough love and care and prevent children from going astray.
Mrs. Banye was speaking at the climax of a week-long celebration of the Women’s Ministry Week at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) in Wa.
The occasion which coincided with the Mother’s Day celebrations was also used to congratulate women for their indispensible role in society and encourage to them to do more.
The celebration was on the theme: “Women, Possessing the Nations By Possessing the Home.”
Mother’s Day is to honor mothers’ and potential mothers’ alike and their influence in society.
It is celebrated across the world in May.
Mrs. Charity Banye said as the society is continually plunged into social vices, it is a reminder that there is a need for continuous care and attention in the home.
“Today, we are talking about corruption; we are complaining about robbery, we are tackling the issue of child prostitution; where did those people come from? They grew up from a home. The mother has a greater responsibility to build a home,” she said.
Mrs. Banye continued to say: “We [women] are all in a hurry, looking for things of this world but how often do we spend time with our children at home?” She said until a time where parents find time to give enough attention to their children, society would continue to see a rise in such immoral activities.
A public Health Nurse and the Women’s Fellowship Leader at the PIWC-Wa Mrs. Pokuaa Arthur schooled women on how to excel in their various fields of work while still fulfilling their duties as mothers.
She said as Christian women, they must aspire to bear resemblance to the woman described by the Bible in Proverbs 31.
As part of the strategies of managing the home as a wife and mother while still having a viable career, Mrs. Pokuaa Arthur touched on time management or organization.
She said: “You [women] should make sure that you plan ahead. You do not have the luxury of time like the housewife and so you must have a to-do list. For the career woman, you should have strict timelines of doing things.”
The PIWC-Wa used the Sunday service to also raise funds to support the Women Ministry in their work.
