The Minister of Energy, John Peter Amewu has again defended the decision to select state oil company, GOIL, as a local partner for multi-national Oil and Gas Company, EximMobil.

Questions have been raised about the selection process but speaking to investors at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas, Mr. Amewu said the decision was taken in the interest of the country.

Ghana Oil Company Ltd, GOIL December 26, 2018, signed a Joint Operating Agreement with multinational oil exploration firm ExxonMobil for Deep-water Cape Three Points Area Oil exploration.

The agreement between GOIL and ExxonMobil followed the completion of an elaborate and rigorous due diligence done by ExxonMobil for a local partner.

It was sealed after a no-objection approval from the government, through the Ministry of Energy.
