The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service would by the end of 2019, set up a digital forensic laboratory.

When completed, it would enable the CID to extend its investigations into electronic and cyber crimes.

This was disclosed recently at a workshop on cybercrime and electronic evidence by the Director General of the CID, Commissioner of Police (COP), Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.

According to her,  equipment to establish the laboratory were being procured and would soon be in use.

She said just like they do DNA and other forensic investigations, the digital lab would recover hidden or deleted data from digital devices such as mobile phones, laptops and computers among others.

The workshop was organised by the Conference of West Africa Attorney General and CWAG, a US- based association into fighting crimes.
