Upper West Regional Security Council has inaugurated a committee to investigate the circumstances that led to clashes between two factions at Nandom in the Nandom District.
The five-member Committee is chaired by a Magistrate Court Judge Sidney Braimah. Other institutions represented on the committee are the Peace Council, the Traditional Council, Nandom District Assembly and Office of the Regional Chief Imam.
Inaugurating the committee Upper West Regional Minister Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan tasked the members to investigate immediate and remote causes leading to the disturbances, assess the conduct of all the factions in the disturbances and assess the extent of damage caused.
The committee will also examine any other matter relevant to the incident, make recommendations to address matters arising from the disturbances and advise on how to avert similar occurrences in future.
The Regional Minister said the committee has fourteen working days to submit its report.
Responding to a question on why the implementation of the white paper on Tumu disturbances appears to be delaying, the Regional Minister said the national security is demanding further investigations on the ownership of the private vehicles that were damaged during the incident before compensation can be paid.
The investigations he said should also look out for individuals whose behavior were found to be criminal for the law to take its course.
Alhaji Alhassan gave the assurance that once the Regional Security Council gets the green light to implement the recommendations after the additional investigations it will do so without any hesitation.
It will be recalled that last Thursday a tribal violence broke out in Nandom town resulting in several people being injured and some property destroyed.
