Three female Ministers, Local Government and Rural Development, Communications and Foreign Affairs have mounted a strong defence for the President Nana Akufo-Addo over comments he made at the 2019 Women Deliver Conference in Canada.
They described as unfortunate the recent uproar that greeted the President’s comments which only sought to make a point about the need for women to step up and forcefully fight for what matters most about gender issues.
President Akufo-Addo, at the conference among other things said despite giving women more opportunities in his government, there is the need for the women themselves to push to make it to the top.
But the President’s comment according to the three, have been blown out of proportion and twisted in different ways.
Speaking to the media in Accra, the three female Ministers tabled issues that make the President a more gender sensitive person.
First is the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development , Hajia Alima Mahama. According to her the President’s delivery was bold, perfect and timely.
The Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu Ekuful said what the President wanted was a vigorous approach by women who will rally a call to action.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway explained what the President meant by women adopting a dynamic approach to gender issues.
She said the uproar is only by some people to score cheap political points and to present the President in an awkward way.
