Ghana today joins the global community to mark World Day Against Child Labour.

The day which will be commemorated at Effiduase, in Ashanti Region is to encourage countries to put in place appropriate legal and policy frameworks, to ensure that attention is paid to the child labour problem.

In Ghana, child labour is endemic in the Central, Volta and Greater Accra Regions.

This the Ghana police Service says has necessitated efforts at addressing the problem. Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Director at the Human Trafficking Unit of the Police Service, Superintendent Mike Baah, said in 2017, the service rescued about three hundred and thirty-nine victims of trafficking of which hundred were children.

He said out of this number four have been convicted.

Superintendent Mike Baah said as part of measures to ensure professional handling of cases of child labour, the Police have introduced child friendly policing in which cases involving children receive special attention.
