Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, O. B Amoah has called on Ghanaians to turn up in their numbers to vote “Yes” in the December Referendum to pave the way for the election of MMDCEs.

He said in as much as Parliament is doing its part the electorate must also understand the issues, for which they are given the opportunity to elect their District Chief Executives.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs programme, “Focus”, which discussed the elections of MMDCEs, Mr. Amoah said the December Referendum is to allow for partisan elections. He however said if the people reject the partisan election, MMDCEs will still be elected but not on political lines.

A Local Government Analyst, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae described as flawed arguments by those who are calling for the election of Regional Ministers if MMDCEs are to be elected. He said the dynamics are different, and that will mean changing the whole governance structure of the country.

A Security, Analyst Adib Saani, said MMDCEs must still hold their position as Heads of the District Security Council, because the National Security Architecture goes beyond the MMDCEs.
