Suspect in mobile money vendor attack arrested

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 28-year old Malian, Awal Mohammed, who is a suspected armed robber in connection with an attack on a Mobile Money Vendor at Tema Community Four.

A statement signed by the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Darkwah said the Police received a distress call at about 4pm that two young men on a motorbike had attacked and shot a Mobile Money Vendor in the leg at Tema Community Four.

According to the statement, the victim raised an alarm leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, who carried the gun used in shooting the victim in the leg. According to DSP Darkwah, when the Police proceeded to the scene the suspect who had already been severely beaten by a mob, was lying unconscious.

He said a pistol with six rounds of ammunition was retrieved from him. DSP Darkwah said the Police also retrieved a motorbike and a facemask. He said the victim was taken to the nearest hospital and is responding to treatment. However, the suspect, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Police Hospital. He appealed to the public to assist the Command with information that will lead to the arrest of the second suspect who is currently on the run.
