The National Limited Voter Registration Exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) to register first time voters began smoothly at Odumase, the Sunyani West District Capital in the Bono Region.
The exercise, which started in earnest at all EC District offices nationwide on Monday, June 17, would end on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Day One of the Limted Voters’ Registration in the Ashanti region saw a huge influx of new Ghanaian adults at the premise of the regional office of the Electoral Commission at Danyame in Kumasi.
The situation was due to the fact that premises is hoating all nine registration centres of the four sub metros of Kumasi and the five newly created Municipalities in the Greater Kumasi enclave.
GBC regional Correspondent reports that, as early as 6.45am, prospective applicants had started arriving in droves from mini buses and other means of mass transport from the Manhyia, Kwadaso, Subin, Nhyiaeso, Asokwa, Bantama, Oforikrom and Tafo Municipalities to register.
There were both standby and patrol police teams to protect life and property.
While there were long queues of applicants at some of the Registration Centres, other Centres were virtually empty after midday. Some of the Registration officials who spoke to Radio Ghana said the exercise had been smooth so far.
There were also observers and agents of mainly the NPP and NDC at the Centres.
Some of the applicants also explained their motivation to regiser for the Voters’ ID Card.
The Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Bano-Bioh, said about 184 Regiatration Centres have been created throughout the 43 administrative districts in the region and that the exercise on day one had been largely successful.
