The National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, says with barely six months to the 2019 National Referendum, the Commission is yet to receive support or funds to carry out public education on the referendum.

According to the Commission, the citizens need to know what the issues are with regard to the review of Article 55 of the 1992 constitution and the need for the referendum.

The Northern Regional Director, Alhaji Abdul-Razak Saani in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana in Tamale said the timely release of funds will help the commission to carry out its duties effectively.

Amendment of Article 55 of the 1992 constitution is to allow political parties to participate in district level elections.

The Regional Director, Alhaji Abdul-Razak Saani, said citizens need to sensitised to the subject matter, so that they will be well-informed to take part in the referendum.

Alhaji Saani said further delay of funds will affect their public education to reach as many people as possible before the referendum.

The NCCE Director said civic education is a shared responsibility, and the commission will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to carry out its duties effectively.
