Members of Ghana’s Parliament have called on The National Team, Black Stars to be disciplined and tactical, in order to lift the name of Ghana high in Egypt.
Contributing to a statement made by Member of Parliament, (MP), for Gomoa East and Vice Chairman of The Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, Kojo Asemanyi, MPs want the The Senior Team of Ghana brings the trophy home and present it to Parliament for all to see and touch.
The statement said, it is worthy to note that after the triumphant victory over Libya in 1982, Ghana is yet to taste another continental glory although the search for the most coveted continental trophy continued unabated.
“For 37 years, Ghana had made a record appearance of 8 Semi Finals and 3 finals appearances of which all have ended in disappointments”.
According to Mr. Kyeremeh, never in our football history have we experienced series of heartbreaks than the period between 2008 and 2017.
Historically, Ghana was the first nation to make 4 consecutive semi-linals appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations”.
This feat was recorded between 1963 and 1970. With this, we broke-even by winning two (1963 and 1965) and losing the other two (1967 and 1970).
However, between 2008 and 2017, the Black Stars have made an unprecedented 6 consecutive semi-fmals appearances with two finals without any victory.
Mr. Speaker, the lost to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the semi-fmals at Kumasi in 2008, the painful defeat to the Pharaohs of Egypt and the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the hnals at Angola 2010, and Equatorial Guinea 2015, the preventable defeat in the semi-iinals in 2012, 2013 and 2017 have not been forgotten,
“We remember them with grief and sorrow,” he recounted.
In his conclusion statement, the MP adviced the players be very discipline on the field of play and they should stay away from social media when they are off the field.
This he stressed: “Will help to avoid any unwarranted comments that will incur the wrath of Ghanaians. We do not want a repeat of the Brazil Saga and the social media outburst.”
“To the coach, my advice is that he should be hold when taking decisions. To the media, I will plead that you will employ a little bit of cimumspection in your reportage about the happenings in the camp of the Black Stars”.
