Management of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (GBC), has refuted allegations that some of the Corporation’s channels have been sold to private organisations.

Management in a statement denied social media report suggesting that GTV Govern has been sold out to Zoomlion Group, Obonu and GTV Life taken over by McDan, with GTV Sports channel going to Star Times.

The statement emphasized that GBC is a State owned organization and therefore management has no authority to dispose off any assets without recourse to government.

It explained that the Govern Channel and GBC 24 were merged and now known as GBC News.. This was done purposely to ensure efficiency.

The other mentioned channels remain the property of GBC.

Management said the relationship with Star Times started when that company won the Ghana Premier League Partnership rights and entered into an agreement with GBC to provide HD OB Van to execute the job because Star Times did not have the personnel. This generated revenue for GBC. Management said the assertion that Star Times is the overall regulator of GBC is false.

The statement said management is not aware of any moves towards official privatisation of GBC by government.

Management however, acknowledges efforts by government to retool the State Broadcaster.
